Many Jason Momoa fans were heartbroken to see the actor get rid of his facial hair recently, so I’m sure they’ll be delighted to know that the beard is making a comeback.

Between Game of Thrones, Frontier and Aquaman, we got quite used to seeing the actor with his luscious, flowing hair and matching beard.

But last month, Momoa transformed in front of our eyes as he shaved his beard off in a video to promote environmental awareness and water packaged in recyclable, aluminium cans.

The actor appeared on Ellen, where he spoke about why he created the surprise video:

As he threw his facial hair into the wind, the 39-year-old bid farewell to his past bearded characters, shouting:

Goodbye Drogo, goodbye Arthur Curry, goodbye Declan!

Though he was clearly having a great time becoming his new, unencumbered, beard-free self, it seems Momoa was a bit premature in saying goodbye to Arthur Curry, because his Aquaman days aren’t over yet.

The sequel to the ocean-based superhero film is in its early days, but it is set to be going ahead as The Wrap reported in February David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick had signed on to write Aquaman 2.

Momoa recently appeared on The Ellen Show, where he spoke about his love for the franchise and his excitement to return to the depths and bring Arthur to life once more.

He said:

I was really, really, really, passionate, to do the second one because it’s the first time where it’s all on Earth. It’s combining land and sea, kind of like what I’m doing with this [environmental cause].

There’s no outside aliens destroying Earth, it’s us. And so I was excited to get back in there, and so I’ve been working with our previous writer, and getting in there, and we’ve got a locked story, and we’re getting into it.

The 39-year-old only had a shadow of stubble when he appeared on the chat show, but he made it clear that his beard would be back in all its glory by the time Aquaman 2 rolls around.

He explained:

I think [the film is] going to be like in two years or whatever. The beard will be back by then.

According to Comicbook, the sequel is set to hit cinemas in December 2022, four years after the original’s release.

I’m sure fans will be looking forward to the return of the beard! And the film, of course, but mostly the beard.
