Since David Cameron’s involvement in a tax avoiding offshore holdings company came to light, the world has awaited the reply of one man – Jimmy Carr.
The comedian, who was exposed in 2012 as fiddling his own finances to keep cash from landing in the coffers of HMRC, was condemned by the Tory leader four years ago as ‘morally wrong’.
As reported by the Huffington Post, Cameron said at the time:
People work hard, they pay their taxes, they save up to go to one of his shows. They buy the tickets. He is taking the money from those tickets and he, as far as I can see, is putting all of that into some very dodgy tax avoiding schemes.
That is wrong. There is nothing wrong with people planning their tax affairs to invest in their pension and plan for their retirement – that sort of tax management is fine. But some of these schemes we have seen are quite frankly morally wrong.
Jimmy chose to keep his reply short, sweet, and loaded with shade.
Mr Cameron may need some ice…
The internet was pretty happy with what they had seen from the comedian.
Others made sure the Prime Minister’s previous indiscretions weren’t forgotten…
And calls for the PM to resign continued to pour onto social media.
