Ever since she returned to our television screens a few years ago the infamous Mama June has been undergoing a dramatic transformation.
The master chef behind such culinary delights as ‘Sketti’, a mixture of butter, ketchup and noodles, lost 300lbs through a mixture of surgeries and dieting.
In a journey documented on the show – sigh – Mama June: From Not to Hot, June lost weight and got a boob lift following an invite to her former lover Sugar Bear’s wedding.
Speaking to ET at the time about her weight loss Mama June revealed that her change in appearance was so dramatic that her daughters struggled to recognise her.
She said:
I think [Honey Boo Boo and Pumpkin] weren’t expecting this much weight to come off, and to look this different. I mean, that’s the thing. ‘Damn, she looks different.’ And if I didn’t talk, you wouldn’t know who I was.
In fact, the 37-year-old is so happy with how she looks now that she’s following in her daughter’s footsteps and entering the competitive world of pageants.
Despite this renewed confidence, June still struggles with her self-esteem admitting that she may not be cut out for the fiercely competitive world of adult pageants.
In a trailer for the second season of her show she admitted:
I’m sorry y’all, I can’t walk in heels, I’ve been always on the other side of the pageant world … I don’t have any talent.
That said it’s not stopped her posing in lingerie and anyone who’s watched June’s previous show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo knows that the Shannon family matriarch has never been shy.
I think we can all agree that June looks completely different!
June said she was really happy with the results of the shoot, explaining the pictures had proven her dedication to her family and that she felt she could be a full-time model.
And while some may say that the only reason Mama June’s been able to lose all this weight is that network was willing to pay for her surgeries they shouldn’t discount the hard work she’s put in.
Speaking to Dr Mehmet Oz better known Dr Oz on his TV show, and reported by Metro, Mama June revealed that while people may think that surgery is a shortcut to easy weight loss it’s actually quite difficult.
She said:
It’s a daily struggle. I’ve had the gastric sleeve. I’ve had the skin removal surgery. But who would think, “Oh, that’s just a fix,” you know what I’m saying.
Trust me, it’s work. You have to work put the work into it, because if you don’t, there’s no sense in spending the money and having the stuff done.
Good on her for losing the weight, it can’t have been easy!
