The man known as doobleschnauzer took to Reddit to inform the world of his findings, and they are pretty deep.
His theory basically goes that each character represents a different insecurity within our psyche, and Springfield and Shelbyville are actually brains. The battle between the towns represents the flaws of human prejudice, attacking that which is truthfully the same.
He posted the following essay to Reddit documenting his mindset at the end of the trip.
