Marvel Boss Confirms They Won’t Change Deadpool Movies

One of Deadpool’s defining characteristics is the raucous, no hecks given approach our antihero has to saving the day.

With arguably the wittiest lines of any superhero – Marvel or DC – the Merc with a Mouth speaks with a potty mouth of mutant abilities.

His whirlwind of fourth-wall-smashing dialogue is delightfully filthy, and free from the sort of trite, overly sincere clichés which so often bog down promising film franchises.

Who could forget snort-worthy lines such as ‘Ever heard Dave Beckham speak? It’s like he mouth-sexed a can of helium!’ And his gloomy report that, ‘Today was about as much fun as a sandpaper dildo.’

Mixed in with the outrageous cheekiness of Wade Wilson’s wordplay is a heady mix of stomach churning gore and explicit sex scenes. And it all works perfectly, although I would seriously advise against watching it with your family this Easter Sunday.

However, fans were understandably concerned that Deadpool’s laugh-out-loud vulgarity would be unable to withstand the Disney/Fox merger.

It was feared by some that future Deadpool scripts would be sanitised beyond recognition in accordance with Disney’s squeaky clean image.

Of course, Deadpool could still retain a sense of humour without all the effing and jeffing, but this would undoubtedly take away from the outrageous essence of the character, removing one of his most distinctive superpowers.

Thankfully, it appears Deadpool’s R-rated status won’t be messed around with or mutated in any way.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed that any further Deadpool projects will remain loyal to the essential three pillars of foul language, sex and graphic violence.

Speaking with Variety, Feige revealed:

When we were purchased, Bob [Walt Disney Chairman Bob Iger] said to us, ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it,’

There’s no question that Deadpool is working, so why would we change it?

Phew. This sentiment echoes a reassuring statement previously made by Iger about ensuring Deadpool’s mouth was kept as mucky as a sewer.

As reported by Variety in February of this year, Iger made the following comments regarding Deadpool and other R-rated movies:

We will continue in that business. There’s certainly popularity with those types of films.

Iger added, ‘the company will make it an effort to ensure it is carefully branding [R-rated films]…so we’re not in any way confusing the consumer’.

Rest assured, Deadpool 3 will leave Wade Wilson plenty of freedom to make villain kebabs, and to pester Wolverine to his heart’s content.
