Marvel’s Iron Fist Cancelled By Netflix

Danny Rand’s adventures on Netflix are over as the streaming service has cancelled Marvel’s Iron Fist after only two seasons.

The series was a major part of Marvel’s Netflix output alongside shows including Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, The Punisher and Daredevil.

But only weeks after the second season of Iron Fist debuted, it has been officially cancelled with Disney and Netflix issuing a joint statement.

The statement, which was provided to Deadline, read:

Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners.

We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.

This is the first time Netflix and Disney have cancelled one of their Marvel programmes which has come as a hard blow to those involved on the show.

And according to the Deadline report, cast members were only told a few hours before the cancellation was announced to the world.

Fans have been reacting to the news on social media with many sharing their disappointment emphasising the second season was an improvement on the first.

Walt wrote:

This really sucks. Iron Fist got so much better in its second season.

Honestly, the best move they can make now is turning Luke Cage into Heroes for Hire. Luke Cage season two was mediocre, but its Iron Fist team-up episode was fantastic.

The Iron Fist himself, actor Finn Jones, has also been reacting to the news online explaining how thankful he is to have had the opportunity in an Instagram post.

Sharing a photo of his character with the word ‘immortal’ taking centre stage, Jones wrote:

With every end is a new beginning.

I have an enormous amount of love and respect for everyone involved with the last two seasons of this show.

Defending the greatest city in the world amongst the most talented and warmest people has been a privilege and a joy. Blessed to have taken this journey and grateful for the ongoing support.

Having only been up for four hours at time of writing (October 13), fans have rushed to show Jones their support giving the post over 39,000 likes.

While Rand’s time at Netflix has come to an end, it is unclear whether the character will return for Disney’s own streaming service which is due to launch next year.

The cancellation has brought into question the future of Netflix’s Marvel crossover series The Defenders which saw Iron Fist team up with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Daredevil.

I suppose all we can do is wait and see whether Iron Fist truly is immortal.
