Some great news at long last as Matthew McConaughey has finally opened up about doing a third season of True Detective.
After a critically acclaimed first season, Nic Pizzolatto’s second season of True Detective didn’t quite match up, but bosses behind the series are adamant it’s ‘not dead’ yet.
Legendary actor McConaughey, who helped make the first season so successful, has now revealed in a recent interview that he would be interested in coming back but on one crucial condition.
It seems the award-winning actor will only return to the show if the writing is up to his standards, according to the Independent.
He explained:
If that thing was written well and it came up again, I wouldn’t hesitate for a second.
Absolutely fair enough considering his world-renowned status for being such a huge talent, he surely doesn’t need the cash, so he has every right to pick and choose at what jobs he wants to take.
Obviously it’s not a definite, as Pizzolatto will have to pick up the old story of Rust Cohle and Marty Hart, which will be interesting, as the storyline seemed to have reached its end.
Perhaps he will take a different angle and go for a prequel to the whole thing or maybe re-cast completely and introduce a whole set of new characters.
Here’s the full version of McConaughey making his announcement:
Who knows, but as long as Pizzolatto can pick himself up from the scathing remarks of critics for his last season and produce something of similar quality as the first, then it seems McConaughey is game.
It’s come straight from the horse’s mouth, so it has to happen now. No pressure then Nic…
