The end of season three of Rick And Morty might well have passed us by, but there’s an even bigger date on the way for us diehard fans.
That’s because, for one day only, McDonald’s is fulfilling Rick’s season arc by releasing that sweet Szechuan sauce.
That’s right, Rick’s one-armed man is here in real life and foodies and fanatics alike can try it for one day only – on October 7.
It was always going to happen, to be honest, after McDonald’s capitalised on the revitalised interest in the niche 90s sauce by running a competition for lucky fans to get their hands on a bumper bottles of the (presumably) good stuff.
For those who don’t know about Szechuan sauce, its history dates back to the late 90s when it was released in conjunction with Disney’s Mulan.
Maccies have released a little description of the sauce full of tiny references to the fans of the Adult Swim animation.

Complex, Impulsive, Determined
Szechuan Sauce fans are typically incredibly motivated, born winners that combine a sweet disposition with a slow burning heat. When these people set goals (or make outright demands), they tend to achieve them.Sometimes, their impulsivity can get them into all sorts of hijinks, but their mad genius is their portal out of trouble.
They truly put the ‘I WANT THAT SZECHUAN SAUCE’ in ‘Buttermilk Crispy Tenders.’
It won’t be as easy as you’d like to get your hands on the Szechuan sauce, and some of you who don’t live in the US might have to whip out your portal gun and make your way over to the States to get your hands on the delicious sauce.
The obsession with Szechuan sauce originated from Rick And Morty season three episode one, which was released unceremoniously on April Fool’s Day this year.
At the end of the incredible episode, Rick reveals his entire plan for his hijinks with Morty is to get his hands on the delicious Szechuan sauce recipe.
He tells Morty in quite possibly the most meta rant ever:
And I’ll go out and find some more of that Mulan Szechuan Teriyaki dipping sauce, Morty. Because that’s what this is all about, Morty!
That’s my one-armed man. I’m not driven by avenging my dead family, Morty, that was fake! I’m driven by finding that McNugget Sauce. I want that Mulan McNugget Sauce, Morty.
That’s my series arc, Morty! If it takes nine seasons, I want my McNugget dipping sauce Szechuan sauce, Morty! That’s what’s gonna take us all the way to the end, Morty! Nine more seasons, Morty!
Nine more seasons until I get that dipping Szechuan sauce! For 97 more years, Morty! I want that McNugget sauce, Morty!
After this genius moment of TV, the internet understandably exploded with both curiosity over the taste of the Szechuan sauce and an insatiable desire to get the sauce back on the menu.
There was even a Kickstarter to develop a new type of Szechuan dipping sauce for the masses.
YouTube videos were uploaded trying out different versions of the recipe to try and replicate the now iconic sauce, but all that is defunct now McDonald’s have released the real deal.
Thank the Giant Head In The Sky!
