Legendary actor, Sir Michael Caine has opened up about health fears and expressed cancer worries after dropping two stone.
The 84-year-old The Italian Job actor has banned all sugar, salt and gluten from his diet, saying he wants to be around to see his grandchildren grow up.
In a troublesome admission – but a sad fact of old age – Caine told The Sun on Sunday, ‘I know my days are numbered and that’s the main worry.’
In the interview, he admitted:
I’ve had to cut back on the drinking and I’m always looking up what’s the best thing against cancer, so I’ll eat that or do this or not do that.
I’ll probably drop dead talking to you but you know I’ve lost 30lbs just because I want to see my grandchildren. They’re twins of six and a boy of seven. I’d like to get to 17 for the boy.
Caine lived lavishly and now credits his wife, Shakira, 70, for helping him return to good health.
The actor said:
I used to drink a bottle of vodka a day and smoke several packs of cigarettes. Without her I’d have been dead long ago.
Sir Michael Caine has previously expressed his support for voluntary euthanasia, saying he hastened his own father’s death from liver cancer by begging doctors to end his suffering with a fatal overdose.
Caine has recently wrapped on his 163rd film. The heist movie, Going In Style is out next month.
