Mindhunter season two is coming to Netflix in August.Netflix

The first season of Mindhunter proved a hit following its release in 2017, with viewers loving the gritty portrayal of the early days of serial killer profiling.

The psychologically focused drama drew inspiration from John Douglas’ true crime classic Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, delving into the nature of evil itself.

Directed by the peerless David Fincher, a second season was confirmed even before the first one aired. And it won’t be long now until fans can delve back into the twisted minds of ruthless serial killers.

Although Netflix have not yet confirmed an exact date, there has been welcome news for fans, who were left captivated by the dark, dangerous corners of humanity explored in Mindhunter.

Executive producer Charlize Theron has let slip as to when exactly we will be catching up with FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany). A potentially big ‘oops’ for Theron, but very exciting news indeed for legions of armchair detectives.

Speaking on SiriusXM’s Howard Stern Show, 43-year-old Theron said:

Season two is coming out in August. Yeah, can’t wait. Deep, dark… it’s wonderful.

Listen to Theron spill the beans below:

Speaking with Billboard in 2017, Fincher spoke a little about what we can expect from season two:

Next year we’re looking at the Atlanta child murders, so we’ll have a lot more African-American music which will be nice. The music will evolve.

It’s intended to support what’s happening with the show and for the show to evolve radically between seasons

The Atlanta child murders refer to a series of real-life killings which took place in Atlanta between the years 1979 and 81.

As reported by The New York Times, at least two dozen children between the ages of seven and 17 are suspected to have been murdered by a serial killer during this time period. Many of these children were young, African-American boys.

In 1982, Wayne Williams was convicted of the murders of two adults. Police suspected he was also responsible for most of the child murders but he has never been tried or convicted. Now 60 years old, Williams continues to protest his innocence.

There has not yet been a trailer for season two. However, with August just around the corner, we shouldn’t have too long to wait.

It would appear that Mindhunter will be returning for a second season in August 2019.
