Once upon a time ago, MTV was the voice of a generation
Before they stopped showing quality music videos (thanks internet) – and replaced it with nonsensical shows like Jersey/Geordie Shore and My Super Sweet 16 – they were at the forefront of youth culture, with shows like the Beavis and Butt-Head and Daria.
Those two shows were pivotal voices for the 90s-to-early-2000s youth, and now it gets to be part of a new generation, as MTV have announced an upcoming Daria reboot is in development.
MTV made the announcement today, (June 21) with the reboot being titled Daria & Jodie.
According to Pitchfork the new series will be written by Grace Edwards, whose impressive work includes Inside Amy Schumer and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Judging by the title the reboot will focus on Daria Morgendorffer and high school classmate Jodie Landon.
MTV’s press release states:
The new ‘Daria’ will be reinvented through the eyes of heroine Daria Morgendorffer and one of her closest friends, Jodie Landon.
The press release goes on to say it will explore the dynamic of Daria and Jodie as:
These two smart young women take on the world, with their signature satirical voice while deconstructing popular culture, social classes, gender and race.
Daria first debuted on the iconic Beavis and Butt-Head, she was the perfect antithesis to the duo’s degenerate, Generation X attitude.
Can’t wait for this!
