Natalie Portman’s Comment Just Before Presenting Best Director Was Perfect

The 2018 Golden Globes was a night for being bold and outspoken and none more so than Natalie Portman.

The 36-year-old V for Vendetta actress shocked the audience, with her ferocious announcement of the Best Director category winner at the Golden Globes.

Her midnight-levels of shade have since led to her being hailed as the ‘savage queen’ by stunned viewers:

Natalie’s co-presenter – 63-year-old A Beautiful Mind director Ron Howard – kicked things off in a traditional manner, wit no sign of fireworks which were about to explode from their direction:

We are honored … to be here to present the award for best director.

At this point Natalie simply added:

Although she didn’t actually drop the mic, she might as well have done…

This year’s Best Director category has already received fierce criticism for not including some of the incredible female film directors who’ve created some of the year’s most memorable films.

Despite commercial success and critical acclaim, Mudbound’s Dee Rees, Lady Bird‘s Greta Gerwig and Wonder Woman’s Patty Jenkins, all failed to get a nomination.

Although there were many talented directors nominated, many film lovers were angered by the gender imbalance shown in this (quite literally) all male category.

Director Guillermo Del Toro, deservedly won the award for the brilliant The Shape of Water.

The 53-year-old creator of gorgeous, gothic fairytales spoke eloquently about the often underrated importance of monster movies:

I have been saved and absolved by them. Monsters are our way of making sense of imperfection.

Taking a leaf out of defiant Natalie’s book, Guillermo refused to exit the stage as the orchestra attempted to play him off.

Hushing the musicians, the king of dark fantasy finished what he had to say:

For 25 years, I have handcrafted very strange little tales made of motion, color, light, and shadow and in many of these instances — three precise instances — these little stories have saved my life.

Its fair to say this year’s Golden Globes will be one to remember.
