Tom Hiddleston’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night was used to premier the latest trailer for Kong: Skull Island.
Set in the 1970s, shortly after the defeat of the legendary beast in New York City, the film follows a group of stranded soldiers as they try to return home with proof of monsters’ continued existence on Skull Island where Kong ‘is God’.
Featuring an all star cast including Brie Larson, John Goodman and Samuel L Jackson, the film looks to connect itself to existing lore while also setting up a future battle between Kong and Godzilla.
A particular highlight is John C. Reilly’s spectacularly-bearded character who’s bound to be one of the film’s funnier characters. His description of some rather serious monsters known as ‘skull crawlers’ is typical of the humour we’ve come to expect from him.
There are also obvious nods to Apocalypse Now as an imposing Kong, along with a number of helicopters are silhouetted against a huge, low sun.
This trailer serves to excite us more for a film which promises to beat its chest with the volume and ferocity of it’s furry lead.
