Spike TV It goes without saying that Stephen King is an unparalleled master of the horror genre, capable of making everything from hotels to to table legs scary but it takes real skill to make something as benign as the weather frightening.
Not that it was a struggle for King who made the whole world terrified of water vapour with his short story The Mist which you probably know from the 2007 film of the same name which featured possibly the most depressing ending in the history of weather based horrors.
Now though the story’s being adapted for television by Spike TV and if the first trailer’s anything to go by it’s going to be absolutely terrifying.

Interestingly The Mist TV show doesn’t seem to be a direct adaptation of King’s work and will instead take the core plot, that an evil mist blows into town hiding a whole host of hideous Lovecraftian cosmic-horrors, and expand on it.
Instead of a tight-knit group of survivors trying to avoid tentacled beasties by hiding in a super market the show will focus on groups across the town and how they survive the bizarre and terrifying weather event.
Spike TVIt’s a bold move on the part of the showrunners but hopefully it will pay off as there’s only so many stories you can get out of people trapped in a super market before you have to resort to a story about someone taking more than ten items to the express queue.
Let’s be honest there’d be at least one person in there who thought that was worse than the inter-dimensional monsters outside the shop.
The Mist premieres in the U.S. on June 22 on Spike.
