One million fans have now signed a petition to remake the much-maligned final season of Game of Thrones.

While some of us are contented to leave the TV-makers to do their jobs, thrashing out our dissatisfaction with narrative arcs in fan faction and edited super-cuts, others have taken Hollywood matters into their own hands.

But the lowest rating out of all the episodes in the eight seasons of Game of Thrones isn’t enough to suppress the appetite for destruction – not unlike a Mad Queen we’re all crying over – demonstrated by some one million fans.

In case you missed it, a Change.org petition has been set up to hit out at the writers of Game of Thrones‘ televisual foray, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, by a disappointed fan.

The petition reads:

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.

This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!

Woah, sick burn, book fan. One million people apparently agree.

The cast, however, and other TV celebs, do not. While some of the Game of Thrones cast expressed some concern of their character arcs, they’ve not gone so far as to condemn the writers.

Jacob Anderson, aka Grey Worm, actually thinks the petition is really rude.

In an appearance on Strahan And Sara he had this to say about the online petition:

The creator of the petition, known as Dylan D, has now spoken out about the petition online.

In a post, Dylan wrote:

I haven’t heard from anyone HBO-related. I don’t think people can reasonably expect HBO to completely remake the season, or any part of this particular series… It costs a fortune to shoot one episode, and I think most signers understand that.

Meanwhile, the writers of the show have confirmed they will be very drunk when the final watch airs tonight.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Weiss said:

We’ll be in an undisclosed location, turning off our phones and opening various bottles.

At some point, if and when it’s safe to come out again, somebody will give us a breakdown of what was out there without us having to actually experience it.

Here’s the preview, if you can handle it:

Beinoff added they plan ‘to be very drunk and very far from the internet’. Hey ho, chin up lads, there’s always the behind-the-scenes documentary and the sequel.
