It feels like an absolute age since Tommy Shelby and the rest of the Peaky Blinders were on our screens but the new season is finally drawing closer, the director has revealed.
Anthony Byrne has been teasing fans with his latest Instagram post which showed producers working hard to get the first episode of season five ready for us.
He wrote: ‘Day 1. Ep 1. Final sound mix! Getting closer to the end..’ and that’s exactly the news we needed to brighten this Sunday.
Filming for Steven Knight’s drama came to an end a few months ago, and now the final touches are being made before the finished product is delivered to our screens.
The new season will see Tommy Shelby branching into the world of politics for the first time with Steven Knight hailing the newest instalment ‘the best one yet.’ This sentiment was shared by Helen McCrory (Aunt Polly), who sung the series’ praises when she appeared on The One Show.
Luckily, it has pretty much been confirmed all the major cast members will return to the BBC drama, with the exception of Joe Cole, whose character John Shelby came to a bloody end at the hands of the mafia – something fans of the series are still reeling over.
Helen McCrory (Aunt Polly), Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby), Sophie Rundle (Ada Shelby), Kate Phillips (Linda Shelby) and Natasha O’Keeffe (Lizzie Stark), Aidan Gillen (Aberama Gold) and Jack Rowan (Bonnie Gold) will all return for the latest instalment.
They’re joined by Charlie Murphy (Jessie Eden), Kingsley Ben-Adir (Col Ben Younger), Harry Kirton (Finn Shelby), Packy Lee (Johnny Dogs), Ned Dennehy (Charlie Strong) and even some new faces along the way.
Although we don’t know her character’s name yet, producers revealed in October that Anya Taylor-Joy would join the cast and Sam Clafin has been revealed to play real-life fascist leader Oswald Mosley.
There’s no news on a start date just yet, but as Byrne reveals the finishing touches are taking place, Peaky Blinders season five should be just around the corner.
