Comedian Peter Kay has announced a very special charity screening of his popular BBC series Car Share.
Four episodes of the hit BBC One sitcom will be shown at the Blackpool Opera House on Saturday April 7, raising money for The Lily Foundation, a charity which works with children with mitochondrial disease.
Two of the episodes will be brand new – audiences will be able to see Car Share: Unscripted and the series finale, for the very first time.
If you need a reminder of what happened in the last series of Car Share, you can watch the trailer here:
The special screening was announced on the 44-year-old comedian’s Twitter page earlier today, March 29.
The announcement read:
Exciting news: A charity screening of new Peter Kay’s Car Share episodes will be held at Blackpool Opera House on Saturday April 7.
Tickets on sale Saturday at 9am.
Tickets will be available via Ticketmaster priced £13.20 each. I reckon the event will sell out within minutes so make sure you’re ready this Saturday (March 31).
According to The Lily Foundation, which is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to fighting mitochondrial disease, every day in Britain, a baby is born who’ll develop the condition.
It’s estimated around 10 million people in the UK suffer from diseases which involve mitochondrial dysfunction.
On the Ticketmaster blog, Kay released a short statement about the charity writing:
The Lily Foundation is an inspiring charity that helps to improve the lives of children with Mitochondrial Disease.
I’ve had first-hand experience of the Foundation’s work and I’m proud to raise both awareness and much needed funds to help with the inspiring work they provide to children and their families.
If you’re unfamiliar with Car Share then you really need to watch it as you’re seriously missing out!
First airing on the BBC in 2015, Car Share follows assistant manager John (Kay) and promotions representative Kayleigh (Sian Gibson) as they drive to work together.
Proving simple ideas can be the most effective, Car Share was a huge hit with both audiences and critics, winning Best Comedy at the 2016 National TV Awards and the 2016 BAFTA for Best Male Performance for Kay, as well as Best Scripted Comedy.
Despite saying previously enough is enough, during his Children In Need appearance last year, Kay announced a final episode of the series would be broadcast in 2018.
Hopefully it will reveal whether the adorable John and Kayleigh finally commence on a romantic relationship!
Kay added a special improvised episode, Car Share: Unscripted, which will see the two comic actors ad lib their way through their daily work commute.
The news of the special charity screening comes after Kay cancelled his upcoming arena tour and all other work commitments back in December.
The Peter Kay Live Arena Tour would have been his first stand-up comedy tour in eight years, which sold out in minutes.
However, in a statement released on Twitter, Kay announced the cancellation writing:
Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects.
This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance For Life shows and any outstanding live work commitments.
My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I’m sure you’ll understand my family must always come first.
I’ve always endeavoured to protect my family’s privacy from the media. I hope that the media and the public will continue to respect our privacy at this time.
Once again, I’m very sorry.
It’s still unclear whether Kay will return to work.
