It’s been 25 years since Mrs Doubtfire first donned her prosthetic mask and made us laugh and cry in equal doses.

The story of how family life is impacted by divorce affected children and grown ups alike, with the role of eccentric father Daniel Hillard being one of the late, great Robin Williams’ best roles.

Pierce Brosnan played Miranda Hillard’s (Sally Field) smug new love interest, Stu Dunmeyer, in the film, a smooth talker who wound up ex husband Daniel to no end. But once the cameras were off, it seems they were all good pals.

New reunion photos have emerged which show Brosnan hanging out with the actors who played the three Hillard children; Lydia (Lisa Jakub, 39), Chris (Matthew Lawrence, 38) and Natalie (Mara Wilson, 31). The trio looked all grown up, but were instantly recognisable, even without their nineties era clothing.

The emotional photograph was shared on Jakub’s Instagram page with the caption:

So this happened. #mrsdoubtfire #reunion #25yearslater

Jakub also shared a video, which initially focuses on a framed photograph of the co-stars taken over a quarter of a century ago at the Mrs Doubtfire premiere.

The camera then pans out to show the fictional siblings standing beside each other in present day, looking absolutely delighted to be reunited once again.

Before jumping in the shot, Brosnan could be heard saying:

Love you, love you all so much, so good to be a part of your lives … I want to get into the picture as well.

Laughing, Wilson referred to Brosnan as ‘our stepdad’, with Brosnan then calling himself ‘stepdad Stu’ – a reference to his self-satisfied character in the comedy drama.

Brosnan also shared pics of the reunion on his Instagram, writing movingly about his former co-stars:

Guess who? Today, after 25 years, I gathered around a table in the company of three beautiful young people, to talk story about a film that has touched the hearts of so many.

Sally is on tour with her new book. Robin is in heaven making the angels laugh and was spoken of with the fondest of love and and sweet memories. Can ya guess the movie?

True fans had of course already guessed at a potential reunion after Jakub uploaded a video of herself preparing to travel to Los Angeles from an airport, while referring tellingly to a ‘significant anniversary’ and ‘fake siblings’.

This movie meant a lot to those who grew up during the nineties, in particular those who had to witness upsetting disputes between their parents at a young age.

And so seeing the co-stars reunited filled fans with bittersweet nostalgia, with many reflecting on the legacy of the one and only Robin Williams, who died from suicide in 2014.

Hi @lisajakub108 this makes me cry so much because I grew up with you in Mrs. Doubtfire, I think we were the same age that time. [sic]

And it tears me up because Robin isn’t there. I cried a lot but I’m happy you guys got together, and I’m sure Mrs. Doubtfire up there is too! Much love from the Philippines! [sic]

This just made my day. I absolutely loved and still love this movie. Robin Williams was so epic in this. I bet you guys had a lot of fun on the set with him. This was my teenage life ❤ [sic]

Anyone else just want to dig out their old VHS tape and relieve every brilliant scene?
