The age of augmented reality gaming is upon us, Pokemon Go has likely taken over your life, and its developers think it is only the beginning.
In an interview with Gamespot a member of the Niantic team has argued the potential for real-world gaming is massive.
So much so that board games such as ‘Risk’ could make the transition, and in Archit Bhargava’s ideal world, Game of Thrones…
On the topic of Pokemon Go competing with one another game called Ingress, Bhargava said :
We’re not that worried about the effect that each game might have on the other, but what we’re hoping is that with both these games, the overall pie of real world games will increase.
There could be a board game you could make in the real world where people are capturing locations like Risk or something. My personal fantasy is like a Game of Thrones game where Westeros is mapped out on Earth and you join House Stark or whatever.
Imagine stepping outside of yur flat and casually encountering a giant, or a dragon?
Clearly nothing is set in stone, but given the overwhelming success of Pokemon Go and the immense popularity of George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones, the potential is certainly there.
For now we shall just have to stick with walking miles per day to become Pokemon masters – Okay the alternative is still pretty damn good!
