Quentin Tarantino could be about to hang up his clipboard, or whatever it is that directors use, after revealing he may stop making films after Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is released.

The moviemaker famously said he would retire from directing after his tenth film in 2016, and it seems like that goal could still be in sight.

While promoting his forthcoming film, Tarantino told GQ Australia:

I think when it comes to theatrical movies, I’ve come to the end of the road. I see myself writing books and starting to write theatre, so I’ll still be creative. I just think I’ve given all I have to give to movies.

Once Upon will, by Tarantino’s own definition, be the ninth film the director has written and directed in its entirety, in addition to all the other short films, television episodes and collaborative projects he’s taken part in.

Quentin hinted if Once Upon is ‘really well received’ he could stop earlier, adding ‘maybe I won’t go to 10, maybe I’ll stop right now! Maybe I’ll stop while I’m ahead, we’ll see.’

So, it’s all very much still up in air as to whether we’ll be treated to another Tarantino blockbuster, depending on Once Upon’s box office success.

Brad Pitt, who is one of the many Hollywood actors to star in the film, also spoke to GQ Australia, adding he ‘doesn’t think he’s bluffing at all’ about retiring.

The actor said:

I think he’s dead serious. I kind of openly lament that to him, but he understands the math of when he feels like directors start falling off their game.

But he has other plans and we’re not going to have to say goodbye for a long time.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood tells the story of actor Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), who’s trying to find his place in Hollywood alongside his stunt double Cliff Booth, played by Brad Pitt.

Sony Pictures

It stars DiCaprio, Pitt and Margot Robbie, as well as Al Pacino, Timothy Olyphant, Burt Reynolds, Scoot McNairy, Damian Lewis, Luke Perry, and Dakota Fanning – to name a few – and we get a glimpse at many of the stars in the newly released scenes.

The film is set in 1969, the year the glamorous world of Hollywood was spattered with violence as actor Sharon Tate was famously murdered by members of Charles Manson’s cult.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is set to be released in the UK on August 14, 2019.
