Richard Madden Confirms Bodyguard Series 2 Talks

After series one of Bodyguard captivated the nation, Richard Madden has confirmed talks about a second series will be happening.

I think Bodyguard will be a show that goes down in history, with the majority of the United Kingdom being able to recall where they were when they watched the dramatic story of David Budd unfold.

According to the BBC, the finale of the first series of the show became the UK’s most watched episode of any drama series across all channels since current records began in 2002.

The highly-anticipated finale was seen by 17.1 million people, the largest audience recorded for a TV programme outside of sporting and national events since 2010.

So basically, it went down pretty well.

It seems we haven’t seen the last of David however, as actor Madden has confirmed conversations are happening about the second series – which would certainly have big shoes to fill after the success of the first.

The 32-year-old had an interview with Deadline in which he discussed the possibilities of a second season of the show and mentioned he was planning to meet up with Bodyguard’s creator Jed Mercurio.

He explained:

I’m going to meet Jed in a couple of weeks, to have a chat and see what’s in his brilliant brain.

Madden added he didn’t really have a clue what might happen in the second series of the show because of the way the first series came to an end.

He continued:

So I’m like, what can happen next?

You know, with David. Because he had a hell of a couple months there. Where do you go with this guy?

David Budd, he walks about London with a bomb on. I mean, everyone definitely knows his face now. He can’t really slip back into police work again. What’s his life like after that?

Hopefully Madden and Mercurio will manage to figure out a storyline for the second series, because it’s certainly in high demand from fans.

One desperate viewer wrote:

The second season of the Bodyguard needs to come out IMMINENTLY !!!!

While another Bodyguard fan tweeted:

there definitely needs to be a second series of Bodyguard! This has by far been the best tv series I’ve ever seen!

I’m sure Madden will have to mentally prepare himself if he does end up doing a second series as he admitted filming Bodyguard was a gruelling task.

He added:

It’s been quite mad. You never expect things to go quite as well, or to catch that many people’s attention, so it was quite overwhelming.

You work so hard on these things that they nearly kill you. You do six days a week, fourteen hours a day, for five months. And then it’ll come out and get two stars and people go, “Yeah, it’s alright.”

This has been the absolute opposite, and all that hard work has paid off; it’s been worth it.

Let’s hope a second series of the hit show gets confirmed soon, I don’t think fans can wait much longer!
