Amy O’Neill, who played Rick Moranis’ on-screen daughter in Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, has said she would be ‘open’ to returning for the reboot.

Earlier this week, it was announced Moranis would be reprising his role as Wayne Szalinski in Disney’s upcoming reboot, titled Shrunk.

The film will star Josh Gad as the son of Moranis’ Wayne Szalinski, who is aspiring to be a scientist like his father, but – in a move we’ve all seen before – accidentally shrinks the kids.

O’Neill, 48, played Amy Szalinski in the film franchise, and said the reboot would have been incomplete without Moranis being involved.

The child actor told TMZ she was ‘so glad’ they’re making another film because they were ‘so much fun’ to make. She added: ‘I think it’s fantastic, I’m so excited.’

She continued:

Rick Moranis doing the next Honey, I Shrunk The Kids reboot is the only way to do it. I’m excited to see him in something again and I think it’s great.

To do a reboot without Rick, it wouldn’t be the same. It wouldn’t be the same movie. I’m so excited that he’s doing it. I have such wonderful memories of making the first one with him. He’s such a kind person.

As well as Moranis, O’Neill is also looking forward to seeing what kinds of special effects will be involved in the new film – particularly because at the time of the first Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, the special effects were considered ‘groundbreaking’.

She explained:

The way they used the green screen, it was the biggest green screen at the time and there were a lot of cutting edge special effects that happened on it.

So now, with all of the special effects that Joe Johnston, the director, has at his disposal… I have no idea what they would do. I think it’s really exciting, they could do anything.

More importantly though, Amy didn’t say no to taking part in the reboot, stating: ‘the idea of being involved in the new one and getting to be reunited with the other kids in the movie, and get to work with Rick, and then get to work with Josh Gad, that all sounds incredible to me.’

She added: ‘It sounds like it would be a lot of fun and I would be open to hearing what they would come up with.’

Joe Johnston, who helmed the 1989 original, will direct the new film, while David Hoberman is producing the reboot, with Todd Rosenberg penning the script.

Who else can’t wait?!
