While we all get wrapped up in blockbusters like Avengers: Endgame, and epic shows like Game of Thrones, it’s almost easy to forget the other great TV we’ve been treated to so far this year.

Ricky Gervais’ After Life is hard to forget though. His funny yet heartfelt, moving yet uplifting sitcom arrived on Netflix in March this year, and was quickly hailed as another piece of outstanding television from Gervais.

The show followed Tony, played by Gervais, whose way of coping with life after the tragic death of his wife was to say and do whatever he wanted, and if it all got too much he thought he could take his own life and end his unhappiness. However, this ‘superpower’ as he calls it, is trickier to handle than he thought, and events unfold in an unexpected way.

After Life was a success on Netflix, and the streaming service quickly commissioned a second series.

Now, Gervais himself has taken to social media to announce he’s finished the draft of season two.

He wrote:

Writing is hard. Rewriting is fun. Drinking wine when you’ve just finished a first draft is fucking great.

He also shared a photo of himself with key members of the cast – perhaps suggesting who we can expect to see again in season two:

As it’s still early days, it may be a while before After Life returns to our screens – though it’s sure to be worth the wait.
