Bringing what has been dubbed the ‘Infinity Saga’ to an incredible close, Avengers: Endgame has been blowing audiences away – all the way to the bank – since it was released last week.
Directors, the Russo Brothers, packed a lot into the three hour runtime, but did leave a few mysteries to tease fans.
A few of these ‘mysteries’ did leave fans raising their eyebrows though, especially the one focusing on the Pym particles.
Throughout the film it is emphasised the heroes only have enough of these particles for one round trip each, with no do overs.
Which is exactly why Tony and Steve travel to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters in 1970, in order to steal more Pym particles so they can travel back to the present.
Before Nebula can use the last of her Pym particles to return to the present, she is captured by the 2014 version of Nebula who instead makes the trip.
She then of course brings Thanos and his entire army to the scene, via the quantum realm, which left audiences confused as they didn’t have any Pym particles left.
So how did they make the trip?
Many fans, including myself, just assumed Thanos either used space technology or the skills of the wizard Ebony Maw, a member of his Black Order, to replicate the Pym particles.
However, in the film the question is left completely unanswered leaving our theories to be just that, until now.
In an interview with the Chinese-language site QQ, the Russos were asked ‘how did Thanos bring his army to the future?’.
Marvel StudiosConfirming the theory, they replied:
There is a guy called Maw in his army; he was a great wizard. Thanos himself was a brilliant genius as well. Those two easily reverse engineered, and mass-produced Pym Particles.
So there we have it!
In my opinion, the Russo Brothers are right to not over-explain certain plot points in the film, as we all have brains and can figure it out for ourselves.
Also, who doesn’t love an open ended mystery, teasing us about what possibly could come next?
However, since there is so much focus on the Pym particles, I feel a quick line from Thanos or Maw about replicating them would have answered the big question we were pondering.
