YoutubeRyan Reynolds is usually the first to crack a joke, but his Critics’ Choice Award speech took a more serious tone.
After nailing the character of Deadpool, which he described as a ‘sex-positive superhero’, Ryan dedicated his best actor award to children suffering from cancer, reports Uproxx.
The ‘merc with a mouth’ had cancer in the film, and Ryan pointed out how ‘sick kids’ really resonated with his character, and so he accepted the award in the name of the Make a Wish foundation and SickKids Foundation of Toronto.
Reynolds said:
The character had cancer and some of the people that this character resonated with was sick kids. So I would like to dedicate this honor to the Make-a-Wish Foundation and the SickKids Foundation of Toronto, two incredible organizations that do so much for so many kids in need.
And I’d also like to dedicate this award to the memory of my friends, Conor McGrath and Grace Bowen. They didn’t lose the battle. They started a fight and it’s up to us to finish it.
YoutubeBut of course Reynolds couldn’t quite help himself, finishing up with a joke with a joke about his kids. He thanked his wife for her support, and ‘for no reason at all, I suppose my children’.
