Ryan Reynolds has revealed Deadpool 2 originally had a joke about film studio Walt Disney Pictures but 20th Century Fox made him cut it out.
The ‘Merc with a Mouth’ took aim at the legendary company, only to later regret it – well for the sake of maintaining a relationship with Disney.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor spoke about his contributions as co-writer with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, in particular what Fox made him delete from the upcoming blockbuster.
Reynolds revealed:
This is a sore spot for me because there’s a joke in the movie that is not in the movie now because — I’m probably not even allowed to say this — Fox made me take it out.
It had more to do with Disney, and they made me take it out. As I look back at it, I think maybe that was a wise decision.
It’s not known what the joke exactly is but we’re guessing it would’ve been no holds barred and possibly a nod to Walt Disney being a bit of a…. We’ll never know.
On the topic of Deadpool keeping his R-rated tone among the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he added:
I really genuinely don’t know a thing about it. I read that [chairman and CEO] Bob Iger felt that there’s plenty of room in that universe to have a rated-R character like Deadpool.
This is completely conjecture on my part, but I wouldn’t imagine that Disney bought Fox to dismantle it or something like that.
I think that Disney bought Fox so it could have that in its arsenal.
2018’s been a weird one so far for Reynolds. Despite the hotly-anticipated Deadpool 2 about to drop, he’s been fending off private life prods from the press.
He and wife, Blake Lively, have found themselves having to address split rumours of late, with media reports suggesting they’re struggling ‘to find quality time together’ because of their work schedules.
A source ‘close to the pair’ is reported to have told OK! Magazine they’re heading towards a divorce, even though it’s been proven they’re absolutely not.
A few days ago, Lively fired a few shots at her husband, again, proving they’re just fine – while not actually addressing the whispers.
The photo shows the couple smiling at each other, and it’s really sweet – but the caption, instead of mentioning how proud she is of her husband, is just a tribute to her hair.
Outside the relationship non-drama, Reynolds is in full prep-mode for the release of Deadpool 2, which is released in UK cinemas May 16 and US theatres May 18.
The trailer to the second Deadpool movie only very recently dropped, and it looks like we’re in for a treat.
The Marvel film, starring Ryan Reynolds as sardonic anti-hero Deadpool, is sure to whet the appetites of punters across the world.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Deadpool 2′s test scores have come back even higher than the first, as audiences loved seeing the ‘Merc with a Mouth’ back on the big screen.
In the trailer, and in an apparent dig at his wife, Reynolds makes a cheeky reference to one of Blake Lively’s first films The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
Right at the end of the trailer, Deadpool says:
Doing the right thing is messy, but if you wanna fight for what’s right, sometimes you have to fight dirty.
And that’s why Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is pure pornography.
Roll on Deadpool 2!
