Ryan Reynolds Tries Bottle Cap Challenge, Goes As Well As You’d Expect

Let’s talk about viral challenges for a hot second. More specifically, the bottle cap challenge which appears to have taken over all forms of social media recently.

If you don’t know what it is, it’s pretty self explanatory in that it involves someone removing the cap from a bottle with one well-placed kick.

Well, that’s what the challenge is supposed to entail, but I don’t think Ryan Reynolds quite got the memo because his attempt was, erm… Well, let’s just say it wasn’t great.

To give him some credit, at least Reynolds’ attempt provided us with a bit of backstory for his bottle – even if it was just a clever way to promote his gin brand, Aviation Gin.

The short video, posted to the actor’s Twitter account, follows the gin bottle as it travels through a range of different landscapes – watching fireworks, stargazing, and travelling through the city until it reaches its final destination, Reynolds’ camper van.

Upon seeing the bottle, the Deadpool star takes it inside where he gears up for the challenge, removing the bottle cap with one carefully placed spin kick. Nah, just kidding. His foot smashes straight into the bottle, launching it into the air and onto the floor in a matter of seconds.

Warning: a bottle of gin got hurt in the making of this video

Reynolds then looks sheepish and runs out of the door quickly, leaving the broken glass behind him in a haze of destruction. I mean, what else would you expect from him really?

As hilarious as the video inevitably is, I have to say I’m a bit gutted that a perfectly decent bottle of gin got wasted. Come on Ryan, do better. We both know you could have sent that to me instead.

Before Reynolds came Jason Statham, Conor McGregor, and MMA fighter Max Holloway – all of whom pulled off a more successful attempt than the Canadian actor, and quite frankly made it look like no effort at all.

One man they didn’t get one over on though, was Donnie Yen, who trumped everyone else’s efforts when he completed the challenge blindfolded and with more finesse than anyone who came before him.

Sorry Ryan, you might have won for comical value but I think we can all see Donnie’s the true winner here.

Better luck next time, eh.
