Despite repeatedly appearing as a character in the Marvel Universe, Samuel L. Jackson has said fans need to ‘get past the Avengers and Marvel shit’.

The renowned actor has played Nick Fury in a number of the superhero-filled productions, including various Avengers films, Captain America: The Winter Solider and Iron Man.

He will also soon appear in the upcoming film Captain Marvel, set to be released on March 8, as well as Spider-Man: Far From Home this summer.

But while he’s spent many years dedicated to the Marvel franchise, the 70-year-old is encouraging fans to remember there are other films out there.

Take a look at him sharing his views here:

Jackson appeared in an IGN video where he responded to comments and questions from curious fans – though many of his responses were full to the brim with wit and sarcasm.

The fans made reference to a number of the actor’s films, with one person simply summing up his successful career with the comment ‘Samuel L. Jackson is in every movie ever, even before he was born’.

To give you an example of the kind of sarcasm he was throwing out, he responded to that comment with ‘oh such a profound and provocative motherfucker you are’.

So that’s the sort of back-and-forth fans were dealing with, until one person made the talented man recite his infamous ‘there was an idea’ speech from the Avengers franchise.

In case you’ve forgotten the speech, it appeared in the 2012 film The Avengers and goes like this:

There was an idea, Stark knows this, called the Avengers Initiative. The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, see if they could become something more.

See if they could work together when we needed them to to fight the battles we never could.

And thus, The Avengers was born.

But while the speech was a turning point for the Marvel Universe, it was enough to make Jackson snap and remind fans that Marvel aren’t the only company who make films – though he did admit they do it well.

After reading lines from the speech, he responded:

You have to get past the Avengers and Marvel shit at some point, ok? Other fucking people make movies.

Ok, some of the superheroes they make aren’t as good but this is not that shit. This is not that.

It’s probably not quite the promotional footage Marvel bosses would have hoped for ahead of the release of Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home, not to mention the highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame, but I don’t think anyone could stop Jackson from speaking his mind.

After all, he has been in ‘every movie ever’. He’s a powerful guy.

Still, with three Marvel films set to be released this year, I don’t think the hype will be dying down anytime soon!

Besides, with Jackson appearing in a multitude of Marvel films, it can’t hurt to have all that money rolling in from the fans.

Captain Marvel is released UK cinemas on March 8, Avengers: Endgame on April 24 and Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5.
