Though fans are likely still reeling from all the Endgame action, Marvel are showing no signs of slowing down with the release of the trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Many people suspected the most recent Marvel film, indicatively titled Endgame, would bring the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a close, but the studio threw us a curveball by revealing the new Spider-Man film would actually be the final instalment.

The film is set for release this summer, and tells the story of Spidey’s adventures across the pond as Peter Parker picks up a passport and travels to Europe on a school trip.

Check out the trailer here:

Peter’s plan is to try and be a ‘normal kid’ and enjoy his travels, but Nick Fury has other ideas as he shows up uninvited in the superhero’s hotel room.

The film’s official synopsis explains how Peter ‘begrudgingly agrees to help Nick uncover the mystery of several elemental creature attacks, creating havoc across the continent’, and with a severe lack of Avengers to help him out, Spider-Man really has to step up in order to save his friends.

Jake Gyllenhaal will star in Spider-Man: Far From Home as Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio. In the Marvel Comics, the character was portrayed as the superhero’s enemy, however the new film is set to put a twist on their relationship by making Mysterio an ally of Spider-Man.

Gyllenhaal’s character will help Peter to take down the elemental creatures, like Hydro-Man and Molten Man, who are working to make the poor teenager’s trip as stressful as possible – though after his ordeal in the Infinity Saga, I’m sure Spider-Man will be up to the task.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Far From Home director Jon Watts spoke more about Mysterio, explaining:

If Tony Stark was sort of the mentor in the previous films, we thought it would be interesting to play Mysterio as almost like the cool uncle.

As the trailer has been released so shortly after Endgame hit cinemas, there were worries it would contain spoilers for the recent film, but to be honest, I think the fact that Spider-Man has a new film is enough of a spoiler in itself.

Obviously Spider-Man: Far From Home would look very different if Peter was still made of dust, and I think the elemental creatures would have had a much easier time wreaking havoc if that was the case.

Hopefully the film will bring the MCU’s third phase to a satisfying conclusion!
