Netflix and Matt Groening are rumoured to have teamed up to create an original animated series for the online service.
The news has been circulated by The Hollywood Reporter, who say that the new cartoon will be Groening’s follow-up to Futurama and The Simpsons.
They have reported:
Insiders say it could earn a two-season pickup for a total of 20 episodes (which would certainly help with the lead time required to produce an animated show).
With The Simpsons earning the title of the longest running US primetime television series in history, it isn’t hard to see why Netflix would bee keen to team up with the show’s creator.
Netflix are keeping quiet though, having declined to comment on speculation.
But declining to comment is not a no, so there may be some legs in the rumours.
