Marvel certainly know how to create a successful film as Spider-Man: Far From Home has already broken a record set by its predecessor Avengers: Endgame

The film was released in the US last Tuesday (July 2) to bring the third phase of the MCU to a close as the follow up to the action in the Infinity Saga.

Far From Home takes place immediately after the events of Endgame and so fans flooded to the cinema to learn what life looks like without Iron Man.

People were so keen to see the film, in fact, that it managed to surpass Endgame’s record breaking midweek takings.

When it hit theatres in April, the highly anticipated sequel to Infinity War collected $25.3m (£20.2m) in North America on its first Wednesday in cinemas.

However, NME report on Wednesday (July 3) Spider-Man smashed that record by bringing in $27m (£21.6m) in North America. The movie has the highest midweek takings of any Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to date.

Not only has Far From Home beat an Endgame record but it also blew a previous Spider-Man film out of the water as it broke the record for Tuesday openings.

According to Deadline, Far From Home earned $39.3 million on its opening day, a figure which topped the previous record set by Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man, which posted $35 million.

The latest Marvel flick sees our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man take a trip to Europe with his friends but despite his desperate attempt to have a relaxing holiday chaos manages to catch up with him.

The official synopsis explains how Peter ‘begrudgingly agrees to help Nick [Fury] uncover the mystery of several elemental creature attacks, creating havoc across the continent’.

It adds:

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.

Tom Holland (Peter Parker) stars alongside Zendaya (MJ), Samuel L. Jackson (Fury) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Mysterio) in Far From Home, which has achieved a good score of 92 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie asks if Parker is ready to be the new Iron Man, an interesting dilemma for the character who has traditionally always grappled with the concept of responsibility.

Will he be able to step into Tony Stark’s shoes? You’ll have to watch Far From Home to find out!
