Sony AnimationWhen Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse swung into cinemas at the end of last year, it spun a sizable web of excitement and spidey-fever.
The Miles Morales-led film, voiced by Shameik Moore, was hailed as one of – if not the – best Spider-Man films of recent times, winning the award for Best Animated Feature at this year’s Oscars.
It also picked up the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature, and went on to gross $375.5 million in the US box office alone, so it’s not surprising a sequel is ‘definitely‘ in the works.

Now, just over six months since its cinematic release, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has come to Netflix. It’s currently just on Netflix US, but fingers crossed it’ll be making its way over the Atlantic any day now.
While most of us are more familiar with Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield or Tobey Maguire (depending on your age) as Spider-Man, the award-winning animated film takes place in another reality, where countless other Spider-People exist.
The film follows teenager Miles Morales as he becomes Spider-Man, and as his journey takes him further into the superhero world, meeting more Spider-Men (Jake Johnson), a Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld), and even a Spider-Ham (John Mulaney).
Sony AnimationEarlier this month, the film’s producer, Amy Pascal, revealed the team are hard at work on a followup to the first Spider-Verse instalment.
In an interview with i09, she said:
We are definitely hard at work on the sequel. You can expect another movie.
This isn’t the first time a sequel has been mentioned though, in November, before Into The Spider-Verse was even released, news broke that Joaquim Dos Santos (Avatar: The Last Airbender) would be directing a Spider-Verse sequel with David Callaham (The Expendables) penning the script.
Sony AnimationA few months later, it was also revealed a Spider-Verse TV series is in the works, confirmed by the film’s producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
Pascal added:
We are doing some television and all these things have to make sense together. I think we have some fantastic shows that we’re doing and we’re just putting them together now.
No cast announcements have yet been made for the sequel or TV series, though the next film is said to explore the growing romance between Morales and the alternate-reality, superhero version of Hailee Steinfeld’s character Gwen Stacy.
