The Twitter account of the late Stan Lee posted an emotional video earlier today, proving how much he loved his fans.
The legendary writer passed away on Monday (November 12) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 95.
Stan – the former editor-in-chief, publisher, and chairman of Marvel Comics – helped create the Marvel Universe as we know it, alongside artists such as Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko.
He co-created characters such as Spider-Man, the Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, and the X-Men and will forever be remembered as a legend among Marvel fans.
The video was posted to Stan’s official Twitter account earlier today (November 14), informing the Marvel legend’s fans of how much his fans meant to him.
The caption read:
So many wonderful moments with Stan came spontaneously. As we were setting up the camera one day, he casually started talking about his fans. We know how much Stan meant to you, and we thought it would be nice for you to hear how much your support meant to him.
In the video, he can be heard describing his relationship with his fans as ‘an equal love fest’, before he goes on to explain in more detail.
He says:
I love my fans. I cannot tell you how much I love my fans. Sometimes, at night, I’m sitting here and I’m thinking ‘ah what’s it all about’ and then I get a letter from a fan, or I read something, or I see something, or I remember something, and I realise, it’s so lucky to have fans.
Fans who really care about you, and that’s the reason I care so much about fans because they make me feel so great.
He goes on to say how wonderful it is for people to care about each other who have never met, who live in different parts of the world, but who have something in common.
Marvel recently released a touching tribute to Stan Lee, thanking him for his ‘unmatchable accomplishments’ within their company.
They posted an emotional montage to their official Twitter page, alongside a message offering their ‘undying gratitude’ for his accomplishments.
They wrote:
Marvel and The Walt Disney Company salute the life and career of Stan Lee and offer our undying gratitude for his unmatchable accomplishments within our halls. Every time you open a Marvel comic, Stan will be there. Please join us in remembering Stan “The Man” Lee.
The montage was made up of a compilation of videos and stills of the writer, in addition to clips from people who had worked alongside Stan at Marvel who shared their fondest memories of him.
Chief Creative Officer, Joe Quesada, spoke about how Stan saved his life:
Stan was doing one of his panels and they asked me to just come up and say hi to him… I came up and I shook his hand – I think the microphone caught it but I whispered in his ear, I said ‘hey, they just wanted me to come up here and, while I’m up here, I wanna thank you. You saved my life because the life that I have today, there’s a direct line through that first comic book to here.’
Tom Brevoort, Senior Vice President at Marvel, also paid tribute to the writer, stating ‘Stan’s best creation was always Stan.’
He went on to say:
As a creative figure is one thing; Stan as a personality was able to somehow tap into his own larger than life, self-effacing and self-aggrandising at the same time personality.
Dan Buckley, the President of Marvel Entertainment, also spoke fondly of the Marvel legend, along with Vice President Sana Amanat, who called him an ‘icon’ for what he represented and accomplished.
The montage ended with pictures of comic books fading slowly into a photograph of the 95-year-old, with the words ‘STAN LEE 1922 – 2018’ placed on top.
Amanat’s voice could be heard over the footage, ending the montage by saying:
There will never be a world without Stanley, he is the heart of the Marvel Universe.
Stan’s work was loved by millions, and the stories of his superheroes have no doubt changed many lives. His legacy will live on in the younger generations whose imaginations he ignited.
