I’ve truly missed the nostalgic, spooky world of Stranger Things which – much like a well-thumbed Stephen King paperback – is best enjoyed in the summer heat.

It feels like forever ago since we were reunited with our favourite Hawkins Middle School gang, who we last saw dancing at the Snow Ball, oblivious to the perils awaiting them outside.

Now season three is finally looming over us, complete with summer jobs and shiny – yet somehow foreboding – 80s malls, as well as sinister enemies to face off. So, what can we expect from this latest supernatural adventure?

As with the first series, there are eight ‘chapters’ to this season, which have been given the following mysterious titles: Do You Copy?, The Mall Rats, The Case of the Missing Lifeguard, The Sauna Test, The Source, The Birthday, The Bite and The Battle of Starcourt.

Of course, it doesn’t look as if it will be a quiet summer by the pool for the Indiana teenagers, who appear all set to face a new threat from ‘enemies old and new’.

In June, Netflix released the following official synopsis for Stranger Things season three:

It’s 1985 in Hawkins, Indiana, and summer’s heating up. School’s out, there’s a brand new mall in town, and the Hawkins crew are on the cusp of adulthood,

Romance blossoms and complicates the group’s dynamic, and they’ll have to figure out how to grow up without growing apart. Meanwhile, danger looms.

When the town’s threatened by enemies old and new, Eleven and her friends are reminded that evil never ends; it evolves. Now they’ll have to band together to survive, and remember that friendship is always stronger than fear.

The secretive town of Hawkins now has a new hang out, the Starcourt Mall, which looks likely to be the battleground where the gang will endure their final face-off against the monster.

The official trailer opens with a creepy voice threatening the plucky bunch of Dungeons & Dragons players:

You let us in, and now you are going to have to let us stay.

We are going to end you. We are going to end your friends. And we are going to end everyone.

An audibly frightened Eleven can then be heard to say:

It doesn’t make sense. I closed the gate.

Forget your plans for this evening, Netflix has you covered. Serve yourself up a nice plate of waffles and dig in…

Stranger Things season three is now available to stream on Netflix.
