Sylvester Stallone fans can stop crying over his exit from the Creed franchise now, because the Hollywood action veteran has confirmed he wants to revive Cobra.

While everyone’s been looking forward to the possibility of a Rocky movie, the 72-year-old actor has thrown us a real curveball.

He recently confirmed he would like an opportunity to revive his 1986 cult classic Cobra as a series for a streaming network.

In case you missed the gun-toting, stick-chewing fun, the movie’s narrative followed Los Angeles Police Lieutenant Marion “Cobra” Cobretti – played by Stallone, but of course – as he finds himself at the centre of a spate of murders carried out by a secret society called New Order.

Basically, the killers exhibited a very grim kind of evil whereby they selected ‘weak’ members of society for extermination.

Amid all the murdering, there was also romance.

Cobra takes a model named Ingrid, played by Stallone’s then-wife Brigitte Nielsen, into protective custody after she witnesses New Order’s leader in action.

The two tried to live their best, normal lives in a small town, but end up having to fight their way through an army of bad guys for survival.

Riveting stuff, honestly.

Stallone told an audience member during a recent Q&A via The AV Club:

That [conceit] was what if Bruce Springsteen had a gun? That was rock n’ roll meets drama. That should have been another franchise because that character was so cool. And I blew it.

My personal life got in the way. But we’re trying to bring it back as a streaming TV series. Bring out the zombie squad. I’m long gone, but the idea is really good.

While nothing is yet confirmed, Hollywood’s taste for reviving all things from the 80s means we’ll be looking out for this one.
