HBOIf you haven’t watched the latest episode of Game of Thrones yet, consider this your due warning that this article is spoiler city.
Okay, now I have your attention let’s sit down and talk about what the hell happened in episode five – otherwise known as The Bells, otherwise known as the Battle of King’s Landing.
Basically, Daenerys went on a murderous rampage, causing pure drama when she burnt King’s Landing to the ground along with multiple innocent people. Perhaps more importantly though, brothers Sandor and Gregor Clegane finally fought it out – and it was epic.
Sandor (The Hound) and Gregor (The Mountain) have been wanting each other’s blood for eight seasons, so it was pretty fitting they should have their final showdown in the penultimate episode.
With both brothers fighting to kill – The Hound to seek revenge on his brother for deforming his face and for potentially murdering his family, and The Mountain because he’s, well, The Mountain – there was never any doubt that the fight would be less than incredible.
Dubbed Cleganebowl by fans, the fight was everything we’d ever hoped it would be and more. Powerful, breathtaking, and un-bloody-believable, people have been calling it one of the best fights in the entirety of Game of Thrones.
Which is some going when you consider there’s a fight in pretty much every episode.
HBORegardless of how impressive the fight scene was though, behind the scenes footage of the battle of the bros has been released, and it’s almost as epic as the fight itself. Almost.
Proving just how much effort went into filming, what with the multiple special effects and the tons of prosthetics used, the behind-the-scenes shots show the true intensity and passion felt by actors Rory McCann and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson.
It’s not shocking to find out that the five minutes of carnage aired in the episode actually required hours of filming, but I’m just glad we get to see it all.

Obviously, the fight had a bittersweet ending as (spoiler alert) when Sandor realised his zombified brother couldn’t be killed by any means other than fire, he hurled himself and The Mountain off the castle edge and into the flames below.
Sob. Would it have been too much just to let The Hound win?! I mean, come on guys.
