Warning: Spoiler Alert
The 45th President of the United States of America, the horsemeat scandal, Disney buying 20th Century Fox; the list of things The Simpsons predicted now rolls into important news territory ‘cos they prophesied what’s just happened in Game of Thrones.
If you haven’t watched The Simpsons for a while, and there’s a lot of quality shows on at the minute to distract you, you may not be aware of an episode they did a few seasons back.
The ep was set in a mystical medieval world. It made nods to the land of Westeros, putting Ned Flanders’ head on a spike à la Ned Stark and contained a cameo from the man who made incest cool the first time around, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
Just putting it out there: please gods of things happening in The Simpsons coming true don’t let this become a thing. The world’s complicated enough as it is without incest becoming a thing again.
I say the episode, The Serfsons, was set in a mystical medieval world, but there were so many nods to Game of Thrones they may as well have gone full hog, shot it in pitch black and had all the characters make logically and narratively questionable decisions.
Oh crap, did The Simpsons predict lazy writing and your nearest and dearest breaking your heart after years of love and dedication? Curve ball! It was an homage episode, silly.
No, they predicted the Battle of King’s Landing, in which several late era Simpsons gags set in a gimmick episode later our (still) beloved family watch from the city walls as a dragon burns their village to the ground.
Remind you of anything? That’s why Dany turned heel and scorched King’s Landing and most of its inhabitants to a crisp!
I say ‘turned heel’, that’s the term flying around the internet at the minute. Just gonna say that after what she did to the slavers in Meereen, the Dothraki leaders, the sleezy guy in Qarth, the Tarleys, we really should’ve seen it coming. Especially after she was cock-blocked by her nephew.
If you can handle any more from Westeros after the show wraps up on Sunday night – and there’s a lot of hopes pinning on the events of Sunday night’s finale – you’ll be as excited as a punter in Littlefinger’s old gaff to hear there’s a documentary about the making of the final season of Game of Thrones.
Director Jeanie Finlay’s Game of Thrones: The Last Watch will be on HBO on May 26 and the trailer below contains a teaser of Daenerys’ final scene.
Unless you’ve reached a point of peak ‘meh’. In which case, I’ve lost track of how many times now: The Simpsons did it!
