DisneyThe Walt Disney Company have announced a plethora of content which will feature on their upcoming streaming service Disney+, which is set to launch later this year.
The service will host original and existing films and television shows from Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, National Geographic, Disney and Fox.
More than 7,500 television episodes and 500 films from Fox will be available on the platform, including all 30 seasons of hit show The Simpsons.
You can currently watch all episodes of The Simpsons either on the Simpsons World website or Hulu, but from day one of Disney+ launching, they’ll only be available on their service.
Following Disney’s acquisition of Fox – which officially completed last month – the house of mouse now owns The Simpsons in addition to Avatar, Deadpool and the X-Men.
At their 2019 Investor Day yesterday (April 11), the company annouced the service will launch in America on November 12 at $6.99 a month.
In a press release published on their website, Disney revealed the exciting Simpsons news:
Additionally, Disney+ announced that all 30 seasons of The Simpsons will be available on the service on day one.
In the service’s first year, audiences will also have access to family-friendly Fox titles like The Sound of Music, The Princess Bride and Malcolm in the Middle as part of an impressive collection of more than 7,500 television episodes and 500 films including blockbuster hits from 2019 and beyond.
Joining The Simpsons on the service will be various characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), including Loki, Vision, the Winter Soldier and Falcon, all of whom are getting their own television shows.
Earlier this year The Simpsons was renewed for two more seasons, so the Springfield residents won’t be disappearing from our screens anytime soon.
As reported by Variety, Fox announced the news at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, making The Simpsons the longest running prime-time scripted show in history.
By the time the 32nd season ends, The Simpsons will have clocked up an astonishing 713 episodes, as well as the 2007 movie.
However, Yeardley Smith, who voices Lisa, has warned the show could soon be cancelled amid concerns the show could be watered down for a Disney audience.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Smith explained how she considers the next two years to be ‘a stopgap’ as the new owners decide what to do with the show.
However, Disney’s decision to stream the show exclusively on Disney+ shows they’re still interested in the franchise.
