With its quirky vibe and inventive cast of characters, season one of The Umbrella Academy kept viewers thoroughly enthralled.

With so many intriguing personalities and incredible abilities thrown into the mix, there was clearly so much more to explore within this imaginative universe.

Fans were therefore thrilled after it was confirmed the dysfunctional adopted siblings, and their collective range of powers, would be returning for a second season.

With the second season looking all set to begin the production process, the online excitement has taken on a mighty force of its own.

New developments have been announced via The Umbrella Academy’s official Twitter account, with footage of beaming cast members clutching their scripts in preparation for a table read. This would strongly suggest filming will kick off within the week.

This telling footage was tweeted with a simple ‘season 2 coming through’, followed by a suitably emo black heart emoji.

The subsequent response has proved more emotional than blasting Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge while practising your eyeliner. One thrilled fan admitted, ‘I may have shed a tear’, while another confessed they were in the ‘fetal position’ while crying at work.

The first season of The Umbrella Academy was based on the Eisner Award-winning comicbook series penned by former My Chemical Romance frontman, Gerard Way, and and illustrated by Brazilian comicbook artist Gabriel Bá.

The Netflix adaption has so far been well received by critics and comic book fans alike, who have enjoyed the striking visuals as well as the substantial acting talent which has brought the gifted siblings to life.

So far, there have been three comic book series telling the story of the heroic bunch of misfits, with a ten year gap between the second and the third instalment.

According to the Radio Times, showrunner Steve Blackman has previously spoken about making sure the show doesn’t leap ahead of the books:

The goal for us is to stay ahead of the show, and since we’re on series three [of the comics], we are now ahead of the show. So that’s a good thing.

The idea with the comic is to go right from series three, take a three-to-four-month break, then go right into series four. That is kind of our schedule to keep us on track. So there is story there and it’s all planned out.
