Warning: Contains Spoilers
The heroic death of Tony Stark has just been made even sadder after it has come to light that sweet, innocent Tom Holland initially mistook the funeral scene for a wedding.
The 22-year-old Spider-Man actor was blissfully unaware that he was supposed to be mourning someone who had been a father figure to his character, and was completely confused when he couldn’t see Robert Downey Jr. anywhere.
For the minuscule number of people yet to see the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer, it gives major spoilers for the ending of Avengers: Endgame. However, it took Tom a while to connect the threads after he was given the wrong end of the stick entirely…
Tom explained his misunderstanding while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where he was interviewed alongside Spider-Man: Far From Home co-stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders and Jacob Batalon.
The spidey gang spoke about the phenomenal success of the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer, as well as Zendaya’s role in helping technophobe Tom get to grips with Instagram.
Then talk moved on to filming Iron Man’s emotional funeral scene, with Jimmy asking who was present as Tony was laid to rest.

It was at this point that Tom piped up about being misled, causing an eruption of laughter from Zendaya:
This is how bad it is for me. I was told it was a wedding. I showed up to “the wedding” and I was like ‘where’s Robert?’

Fans didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at how Tom had been so sneakily misled, and felt teary-eyed all over again when remembering Tony’s demise.
One person tweeted:
Marvel telling my boy @TomHolland1996 that the funeral scene is a wedding while filming, is outrageous. Poor Tom.
Another sobbed:
To avoid spoilers, Tom Holland was told they were shooting Tony’s wedding. He got to set and asked where RDJ (Tony) was, only to realize… it was his funeral. It’s a somber scene and remembering it now is heartbreaking. I’m going again on Saturday btw. ‘Pain is an old friend’.
