A woman married herself in a display of self-love and respect, before she then cheated on herself with a polyamorous man.

Sophie Tanner married herself back in 2015 and hasn’t looked back since, maintaining a healthy love for herself, enabling her to love others in the right way.

On the website, The Self Esteem-System, Dr Joe Rubino, revealed the surprising statistic of how 85% of the world’s population are affected by it and how it’s a ‘foundational factor in many societal issues’.

Speaking to Amanda Holden, Sophie said:

Self marriage is about self love and it’s saying that self-compassion and self-care is as important as romantic relationships.

It doesn’t mean you’re rejecting all other meaningful relationships in your life and becoming a nun forever more. It means you’re rejecting bad relationships.

If only there was more self-love in the world, we wouldn’t need ceremonies like this.

This is a statement which looks to raise the profile of self-love, saying it’s as important as romantic love and doing it as a formal ceremony as anyone else would have a wedding.

Marrying yourself is a lifelong commitment to be responsible for your own happiness, so divorce is not an option.

After Sophie married herself, she ‘cheated’ and had a relationship with Ruari Barrett – a practicing polyamorist who chose to enter into a monogamous relationship with Sophie.

About five months into their relationship, Ruari began having desires to date other women and Sophie ended the relationship deciding ‘she deserved better’.

Ruari later had a revelation how he was only trying to love more people in order to receive more love, but it was actually leaving him with little or no self-love.

So Ruari married himself too and is a huge supporter of the movement to encourage a higher self-esteem across the population.

It can be incredibly damaging when someone doesn’t have a positive view of themselves, so promoting self-love is an admirable thing to do.
