Walt Disney Studios Motion PicturesAvengers 4 director Joe Russo has said Chris Evans isn’t finished with Captain America just yet.
With Thanos still reigning terror in the Marvel Universe, fans have to face facts that any one of the remaining Avengers could be next on the chopping block in the upcoming film, consequently meaning they’d have to say goodbye to the actors who have played them so spectacularly.
Evans sparked rumours he was leaving the role after he finished filming Avengers 4 last month, when he tweeted how playing Captain America had been an ‘honour’.
Of course, he didn’t say outright he was leaving, but his choice of words definitely made it seem that way. I don’t think you’d say ‘thank you for the memories’ if you were planning to make more.

Unfortunately the new film isn’t released until Spring 2019, so all fans have to go off are the cryptic messages we get from people who would know.
While Evans’ tweet makes it seem like Avengers 4 is his last time playing Captain America, Russo hinted at the opposite.
In an interview with USA Today, the director spoke about Evans’ tweet, saying:
I think it was more emotional for him than it was us because he’s not done yet. I won’t explain what that means but fans will soon understand what I’m talking about.
I have to say, the way Russo worded his comments kind of made it sound like the directors gave Evans the boot and they weren’t the least bit sorry about it. But I’m sure that’s not the case.
At least he promised what he means will be revealed ‘soon’ – all these mixed messages must really be playing with the emotions of Evans’ fans.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, after sharing his tweet Evans tried to cover his tracks in the way of spoilers at ACE Comic Con in Chicago, where he explained:
I should clarify that I know I did tweet something that made a lot of people think that it was in some way a spoiler.
Regardless of how Avengers 4 ends, I would have tweeted the exact same thing. That last day of filming was a very emotional day and it was the culmination of almost 10 years of filming and 22 movies, this unbelievable tapestry.
I felt it was appropriate to share the gratitude. I know it had a ripple effect but I am neither confirming nor denying anything.
Fans will just have to wait and see!
Avengers 4 will be released in the UK on April 26, 2019, and in the US on May 3, 2019.
