Yesterday a historic entertainment deal was made as Disney brought 21st Century Fox.
After months of discussion, Disney acquired mass media corporation 21st Century Fox yesterday, taking with it among other assets the 20th Century Fox film studios and a 39 per cent stake in Sky for a whopping $52 billion.
This means that all properties that were previously owned by Fox are now in the hands of the Mouse House including – from a comic book perspective – the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool.
Ever since the deal was rumoured to be happening, Marvel fans have been pretty excited about the prospect of these heroes joining the famous Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Before the MCU was created, which includes films such as Iron Man, Captain America and The Avengers, Marvel sold off a number of key characters such as the X-Men and Fantastic Four to other studios.
This prevented these heroes from appearing in any of the films made by Marvel – until now.
Although the sold off characters got their own films of varying success – the less said about the Fantastic Four reboot the better – Marvel fans have been desperate to see them fight villains alongside the likes of heroes The Hulk, Thor and Spider-Man.
Seriously though, seeing the world’s greatest heroes all coming together on the big screen is enough excitement to make any grown-up nerd weep.
It’s no wonder why that Disney did not wait long to make the official announcement that yes, the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool will be joining the MCU.
According to Deadline, Disney CEO Bob Iger told investors:
We have the opportunity to expand iconic franchises for new generations of fans.
We’re also looking forward to expanding the Marvel cinematic universe to include X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool.
Although it remains unclear how exactly these characters will join the MCU, it’s very likely they’ll get their own films and even possibly team-up with other heroes just like in The Avengers.
Personally I can’t wait to see Wolverine and Deadpool facing off evil alongside Iron Man!

With Disney having declared themselves happy to make some rather potty-mouthed R-rated films, fans shouldn’t worry that their beloved sarcastic and violent hero Deadpool will be ruined by the House of Mouse.
We can also hope we will finally get a decent Fantastic Four film because tbh the two adaptations Fox threw up were utter garbage.
Although the early X-Men films were pretty good, fans lost patience when the dreadful Apocalypse was released, so it’s probably about time the mutants were given a makeover.
There is concern though within the industry about the sheer amount Disney now owns which puts them way ahead of any other competitors.
Owning an astonishing 27 per cent of the film industry, the list of properties in Disney’s hands is incredible: Star Wars, Alien, The Simpsons, Avatar, Planet Of The Apes, Kingsman, the list could go on.
That amount of power naturally is concerning but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. For now the prospects of what Disney can create are just exciting!
