Seth MacFarlane is known for his edgy jokes and controversial humour, it’s part of the reason so many people love him.

When he was announced as host of the Oscars, there was a large amount of controversy, because his history as creator of Family Guy and American Dad makes him a little bit too ‘out there’ for a mainstream awards show.

And critics were proved right, with his stint as presenter of the show being hailed as one of the most divisive in recent memory.

But there’s one particular joke from the Oscar nominations which has become a lot more relevant today, now the revelations about Harvey Weinstein have hit the headlines.

Check out the joke below:

Seth made the quip after the nominations for the category of Best Actress In A Supporting Role were announced and his blue joke was super uncomfortable.

He said:

Congratulations! You five ladies no longer have to pretend to be attracted to Harvey Weinstein.

It definitely seemed like the audience were in on the joke and there was a laugh and a kind of uncomfortable silence which followed pretty soon after – this isn’t the only evidence we’ve seen about how Hollywood were in on the ‘open secret’ of Weinstein’s alleged abuse of females in the industry.

According to TMZ, Tina Fey wrote a joke on 30 Rock for Jane Krakowski’s character, who quipped:

I’m not afraid of anyone in show business. I turned down intercourse with Harvey Weinstein on no less than three occasions… out of five.

Harvey Weinstein was fired from The Weinstein Company on Sunday following the exposé which revealed decades of sexual harassment allegations made against him by actresses.

The company’s board of directors announced his firing Sunday night in a statement, reports CNBC, marking the beginning of one of the biggest falls from grace Hollywood has ever seen.

The statement read:

In light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days, the directors of The Weinstein Company — Robert Weinstein, Lance Maerov, Richard Koenigsberg and Tarak Ben Ammar — have determined, and have informed Harvey Weinstein, that his employment with The Weinstein Company is terminated, effective immediately.

Weinstein issued a statement to The New York Times, writing:

I came of age in the Sixties and Seventies, when all the rules about behaviour and workplaces were different. That was the culture then.

I have since learned it’s not an excuse, in the office – or out of it. To anyone.

I realised some time ago that I needed to be a better person and my interactions with the people I work with have changed.

He added:

I appreciate the way I’ve behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain and I sincerely apologise for it.

Though I’m trying to do better, I know I have a long way to go. That is my commitment.

The Miramax mogul went on to say how he plans to revitalise his reputation and career later on after confronting his wrongdoings.

He continued:

My journey now will be to learn about myself and conquer my demons. Over the last year I’ve asked Lisa Bloom to tutor me and she’s put together a team of people. I’ve brought on therapists and I plan to take a leave of absence from my company and to deal with this issue head-on.

I so respect all women and regret what happened. I hope that my actions will speak louder than words and that one day we will all be able to earn their trust and sit down together with Lisa to learn more.

Trust me, this isn’t an overnight process. I’ve been trying to do this for 10 years and this is a wake-up call. I cannot be more remorseful about the people I hurt and I plan to do right by all of them.

He revealed:

I am going to need a place to channel that anger so I’ve decided that I’m going to give the NRA my full attention. I hope Wayne LaPierre will enjoy his retirement party.

I’m going to do it at the same place I had my Bar Mitzvah. I’m making a movie about our President, perhaps we can make it a joint retirement party.

One year ago, I began organising a $5m foundation to give scholarships to women directors at USC. While this might seem coincidental, it has been in the works for a year. It will be named after my mom and I won’t disappoint her.

Several actresses and actors have come out and spoke out against Weinstein, including Meryl Streep and George Clooney.
