This will warm the cockles of your heart, if you have one that is…
A lonely 93-year-old man who eats McDonald’s Happy Meals almost every day to deal with the death of his wife has been thrown a surprise birthday party by the restaurant.
Harry Scott visits his local restaurant in Workington, Cumbria at least six times a week following the death of his wife Martha. He has become a massively popular customer with staff that he even has his own table.
To celebrate his 93rd birthday this week, McDonald’s staff put up balloons and banners and bought him whiskey and shortbread. As a sweetener they said that he can now have his usual Happy Meals for free.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, an emotional Harry said: “The kids who come in here are mine as I don’t have any of my own. It’s company for me. When they threw the surprise party I had to wipe my eyes.”
The pensioner lost his wife six years ago and from 2013 he started going to McDonald’s, where he began making friends with staff and other customers.
He now goes every day, minus Sundays where he goes to his goddaughter’s for a meal. The man, from High Harrington, normally goes to the fast food eaterie early in the afternoon for a Happy Meal and sometimes goes back for dinner.
Crew member, Jack Holliday said: “He’s a one-off. We get regular customers but he’s one that stands out. He’s bubbly and full of life, especially for a 93-year-old.”
That really is a happy meal…
