We all know somebody who is obsessed with prosecco, maybe you are, so you’ll be happy to know Aldi has used the bubbly stuff to infuse its sausages with.
Aldi’s Specially Selected outdoor bred British pork cocktail sausages with prosecco, cranberry and orange are apparently ‘perfect for giving party spreads a prosecco popping twist’.
Fancy trying them? You’ll have to wait a while, they go on sale on December 14, and will only set you back £1.99.
And it’s not just the sausages, the supermarket has gone into festive overdrive and are seemingly infusing a whole host of foods with various types of alcohol.
From December 12 you’ll be able to buy Scottish smoked salmon cured with a choice of premium Scottish whisky or Monsigny brut champagne and Sicilian orange oil, for £3.99.
Aldi are also selling a British lamb shoulder with redcurrant, cranberry and, yep, port glaze – on the shelves December 19 and priced in store.
From November 14, you can pick up the supermarket’s Specially Selected Exquisite Christmas Cake (£9.99) made using Aldi’s Veuve Monsigny champagne brut, as well as Vostizza currants, almonds and apricots. Nice!
Then there’s the Sloe Gin Mince Tarts (£2.29 for six) – these little pastry tarts include sloe gin in their filling with a flaked almond topping.
Their new take on a traditional classic is a kind of food and drink hybrid pie, and while the concept of sprinkling your pudding with a little festive spirit isn’t exactly new, Aldi seem to have nailed this pan-substance style dish.
Aldi are also offering you a ‘dollop of je ne sais quoi to puddings’ with brandy cream with Courvoisier VS Cognac or their extra thick sloe gin and spiced cranberry cream, both available from December 1 and priced in store.
This looks good, too: an Exquisite Prosecco and Apricot Panettone, on sale from November 14. Made in Tuscany, this light seasonal cake is fermented with natural ‘mother’ dough that has been tended to for 40 years. It contains dried fruits and is laced with prosecco syrup, yum yum gimme some (£6.99).
And on the reverse, Aldi are also infusing alcohol with food. Sort of. They’re releasing their own chocolate wine.
Just when you thought wine wasn’t good enough, someone has gone all Willy Wonka on it and given the public its own chocolate version.
