These ALDI bangers promise a taste explosion like no other sausage on the market right now.
It’s called the Grim Reaper – which one might argue isn’t the best universal marketing tack to take – but it’s set to work on those who like a food challenge.
…Perhaps not ones to buy for Sunday lunch with your gran though. I guess you have to taste them to see why.
The Grim Reaper Sausages get their name from the chilli they’re made with, which happens to be the hottest in the world. It’s called the Carolina Reaper.
It’s just one of the many sausage puns floating around online with the news of the release… They’re just the wurst, am I right?
The sausages, laced as they are with this foodie equivalent of a burning poison, will set you back £1.99 for the privilege of trying to get 400g down your gob.
I’ll be honest, it’s not my idea of a delicious meal. But this, coming from a Korma fan. So, sue me.
Even if you can stomach it – unlike me – I’m betting you won’t taste much after the Reaper has paid your mouth’s taste buds a visit.
They have an average heat rating of 1,569,300 Scoville heat units, meaning they’re 400 times hotter than a Jalapeño, according to Aldi.
The spicy snags, which were first launched in February last year with another chilli, are made from 100 per cent British pork too, which is nice news for meat-eaters.
Not so great for the pigs. But they are gluten free, so take from that what you will.
The sausages have been brought back by popular demand as part of Aldi’s Specialbuys, and are branded Specially Selected, so they’re only going to be available as long as stocks last.
Users of deal-sharing website hotukdeals first spotted the sausages are coming back, and they’ve been sharing their spice experiences.
One user said she ‘bought these last time for hubby and eldest to try’ saying it was ‘hilarious watching them’ and she’s ‘not heard the last of it since’.
Another unhappy customer said they ‘had these last time and they were rubbish’ and gave some advice, claiming ‘you are better off buying some decent sausages and having some chilli sauce to dip them in’.
Heard it there first.
Presumably they’ll fly of the shelves like hot and spicy cakes. Or sausages. They’ll be in stock and on shelves come Thursday (February 28).
But don’t be a wiener and take my advice. Try ’em for yourself. It’s your funeral.
