I always knew I loved Aldi, which allows me to cook proper meals like an actual grown-up without ending up scrabbling for pennies in the supernaturally long week before payday.
I’m also grateful that this bargain paradise has a very decent wine aisle, which easily competes with its pricier competitors.
Aldi’s increasingly impressive variety of plonk comes highly acclaimed, and not just by the standards of my own easily pleased palette.
Despite being priced between a modest £3.69 to £16.99 mark, Aldi’s vino has cleaned up at prestigious wine competitions including at the Decanter World Wine Awards and The International Wine Challenge (IWC).
Wine tasting is often seen as an elite extra curriculum activity, with most of us just going for whatever is on offer on a Friday night.
However, Aldi has proven you can still embrace your inner sommelier, even if – like myself – you’ve never so much as set foot in a vineyard.
If you have a passion for learning about all different types of grapes and pairings, then Aldi has a very exciting opportunity for you.
The Aldi Wine Club is looking for ‘budding wine connoisseurs’ to join their tasting panel, and embark on a sumptuous ‘tasting journey’.
Every three months, Aldi will recruit 30 people who have the potential to blossom as bona fide wine experts.
Over the course of a six week period, these tasters will receive three (free!) bottles of wine to enjoy, review and tweet about. This isn’t a paid position, but it doesn’t exactly sound like a chore.
According to Aldi’s Wine Club announcement:
Being part of the panel means that you’ll be the first to hear about our award-winning wines, and we’ll send you three delicious bottles from our range to try over a six week period. All we ask is that you taste and review the wines in a tweet using the dedicated #AldiWineClub hashtag.
Lucky tasters will also receive plenty of guidance along with their bottles, which come with an educational selection of tasting notes on aspects of wine tasting such as aroma, body and taste.
Applying is quite simple, and you don’t need any fancy wine qualifications whatsoever. All you have to do is email wineclub@aldi.co.uk with your name, proof of age and Twitter handle.
Within this email, you should explain why you would be a splendid member of the Aldi Wine Club, mustering up all your love and appreciation for good wine in no more than 150 words. I for one am going to be very distracted this afternoon…
The closing date for entries is June 3, 2019. Best get your thinking cap on if you fancy this delicious addition to your summer evenings.
