Many people assume the more expensive the whisky, the better it tastes, so thank you Aldi for blowing that theory out of the barrel.

In a tussle with whisky’s top boys, Aldi’s own brand was placed in the number one spot at the blind taste tests at the Spirits Business Scotch Whisky Masters.

‘What is this whisky you speak of?!’ I hear you ask. Say hello to Aldi’s Glen Marnoch Speyside Single Malt Scotch, which won the coveted prize and costs just £17.49 a bottle.

Aldi

The supermarket chain came out on top ahead of favourable brands such as Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve, which is priced at £37.45 per bottle.

Aldi came away with five medals from the event. Their Highland Black 8-Year-Old was the cheapest to pick up a prize, costing a mere £12.99.

According to The Telegraph, Tony Baines, Aldi’s joint managing director of corporate buying said:

Whisky has gone through a resurgence in popularity recently and it just goes to show that whisky lovers can enjoy great value products, which have been given the nod of approval by industry experts, without compromising on quality at Aldi.
