Eating food and going on holiday are two of my favourite things to do, so I would jump at the chance to get paid for doing both.
You may think this dream job doesn’t exist, but a UK company has made it a reality as they are looking to pay someone £50,000 to travel the world, discovering new food.
That’s right, new plant-based food subscription service the Vibrant Vegan Co. are looking to hire a ‘Director of Taste’, on a salary £50,000 with all travel, accommodation and food expenses covered.
Although you don’t have to be a vegan to work here, it sure helps, because the job will be focused solely on plant-based ingredients as you trot the globe, trying new foods and reporting back on your discoveries to the company.
Travelling for up to four months at a time, you will visit countries including India, China, Turkey, Chile, Mexico and Japan, looking for exciting new ingredients and recipes which the Vibrant Vegan Co. will then use.
To apply you must be ‘suitably qualified with at least three years’ experience in the food business or as a chef’ and ‘preferably have a degree in Food Science or similar’, although the company notes this isn’t mandatory.
The job description reads:
We are looking for an experienced individual with an excellent palate, to bring exciting new and innovative recipes to the UK as our new Director of Taste. You will be responsible for finding, then taste testing new exotic ingredients and recipes, which will be fed back and incorporated into our products.
You will help set up overseas partnerships to source the new ingredients you find and will be expected to work up to 35 hours a week, with flexible working patterns available.
Full sick pay and 28 days holiday. It’s important that the candidate is available and willing to be away from the UK for long periods of time.
To apply all you have to do is send an email to [email protected].
Shortlisted candidates will then have to go through ‘a rigorous interview process’, and be subject to a full background check.
If you get through to the final stages, your palate will be tested to see if it’s up to scratch.
It’s tempting me to get some practice in.
